ABOUT US:
Founded in Kuala Lumpur, JDEV Studios (pronounced “Jeh-dev,” not spelled out) is a Malaysian-led independent creative studio specialising in theatre and film that centre Malaysian voices, identities, and lived experiences. We focus on developing and producing original and contemporary works written by Malaysians, for Malaysians, with strong emphasis on local narratives and cultural authenticity.
Our work prioritises stories of local communities, domestic relationships, and interpersonal conflicts, often exploring the quiet tensions and emotional complexities within Malaysian families. We champion the use and celebration of local languages beyond English, ensuring our storytelling reflects the linguistic and cultural diversity of Malaysia. Through new writing and original scripts, JDEV Studios is committed to nurturing Malaysian ideas, perspectives, and artistic expression on stage and screen.
