Cheng Jia Ler is an aspiring Malaysian actor and creator who aims to hone his skills of storytelling. Inspired by the raw human emotions found in different stories, his journey started when he joined SPART (Society of Performing Arts at Taylor's), auditioning for a role in 2023's Delusion Day Event. Since he has practiced his ability in both acting and writing, in the hopes of connecting people with his storytelling.
In 2024, Cheng Jia Ler wrote and directed the signature event for SPART, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth with a Malaysian twist: "Prophecy of Blood". The play explores the original themes of ambition, unchecked power and betrayal, while also adding different elements to make it stand on its own. Being the largest event for SPART of the year, the play served as a platform for Cheng Jia Ler to prove his skills and to hone the skills of the art he is passionate about.
Later in October 2024, Cheng Jia Ler starred in "You're Not Really Here", directed by Syed Mahiaan and produced by Star-Eyed Collective. The short film stars Cheng Jia Ler as Dexter, a troubled man with the weight of his past burdening him.
In 2025, Cheng Jia Ler will make a performance as John in Finite. He will be continuing his journey or writing and acting following the play.
Cheng plans to have his work focus on the different colours that paints the picture of humanity. He aims to create works that questions, and to maybe give a sense of understanding of the complex web of humanity.
