Step into the golden age of Old Malaya with Mawar Putih Mawar Merah, Red Rose, White Rose. A bold new immersive musical that reimagines the beloved folktale Bawang Putih Bawang Merah like you’ve never seen before.

Organised by The Living Project under The Impact Festival, and proudly brought to you by Krate Creative Space from Melaka, this original experience unfolds in the heart of Kuala Lumpur at the historic Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman—a cultural gem tucked away amidst the city’s modern skyline.

For two nights only, the grounds of this heritage house transform into a full-sensory theatre experience, with the iconic kampung house as a backdrop for this outdoor live musical!  Expect dance, live music, drama, and nostalgia as you're swept into a 1950s Malaya dreamscape where kampung gossip meets silver-screen glamour. With interactive storytelling, Mawar Putih Mawar Merah brings you on a journey through love, friendship and forgiveness. 

Come early to explore the Pasar Malaya Artisan Market, enjoy a picnic-style Santapan Dapur Melayu, or indulge in a full VIP dining experience at the Open House Restaurant which serves a 3-course authentic Malay cuisine before the show, complete with a private photo session inside the iconic Kampung Rumah Penghulu. Presented primarily in Malay and English with a little Peranakan lingo, the performance is accessible to all, with English subtitles provided. 

Dress up for the event! —think Old Malaya Glam: kebaya, cheongsam, batik, or 1950s-inspired fashion. Whether you’re seated on a tikar under the garden lights or dining in style, you’ll be fully immersed in a celebration of culture this Merdeka! 

THIS IS AN OUTDOOR EVENT

Please note that Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman will act as a backdrop for the show, no audience member is allowed into the house.

Standard Pass

- Santapan Dapur Melayu:
Packed meals for a picnic-style dinner, enjoyed on the comfort of a tikar/mat. 

- Group photo session;
To support a more sustainable event, your digital group photos will be sent to you via email by the organisers!

- Free-seating area in the garden;
Make yourself comfortable in the garden with tikar/mats provided and a more intimate view of the stage.

VIP Experience 

- Seated dining at the Open House Restaurant;
Enjoy a 3-course meal, authentic Malay cuisine while having a meet and greet with some of the actors before the show (The restaurant is a two-minute walk from the stage). 

- Exclusive photo session with the casts at Rumah Penghulu;
You will have an exclusive photo session with the main cast in front of the iconic Kampung house!

- Interactive engagement and light roleplay during the show;

- Best view of the show.

Timeline of Event:

5.30 PM - Ticket registration, guests are free to explore The Impact Festival Market afterwards.
6.30 PM - Standard ticket holders may begin to collect their packed meals and enjoy the meal picnic style.
6.30 PM - VIP Registration + Santapan Dapur Melayu (please be advised, the 3-course meal shall begin once all esteemed guests have arrived)
7.30 PM - Guests to be seated.
8.00 PM - Mawar Putih Mawar Merah by Krate begins.
10.30 PM - Private photography session for VIPs. 

About Krate

From the creative minds behind The Missing Diamonds at The Baba Nyonya Museum Melaka (2023) and the recent stand out production The Great Gossip (2024), and The Best Nyonya Musical (2022-2025), Mawar Putih Mawar Merah is the newest original musical drama written and directed by Wee Shyre May and now debuting in Kuala Lumpur! 

Based in Melaka and established in 2016, Krate Creative Space is a theatre production company specialising in interactive and immersive performances that highlight cultural elements. With more than 10 plays under its belt, Krate continues to inspire and support local artists while contributing to the growth of the performing arts industry in Melaka.

• Kindly set mobile phones on silent mode to avoid interruptions.
• We reserve the right to excuse any audience member if they are being disruptive.

3. Ticket Policy:

• Tickets are non-refundable.
