Synopsis
The courses offered in TAS Academy @ penangpac are yearly courses with 3 semesters. In every semesters, 10 lessons will be offered. This will lead to an annual final production at year end where children and teens will be placed under the spotlight and exposed to a real stage performance.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only two semesters were conducted in 2020. Taking into consideration of public safety and adhering to the SOPs enforced by the government, the final production of TAS Academy @penangpac 2020 will be made available via Cloud Theatre. We hope this online streaming of the final production will be enjoyed by the students, teachers and their families as much as everyone has enjoyed watching them live on stage in previous shows.
With this, we present you TAS Academy @ penangpac's finalproduction for the year 2020!
The Actors Studio
In 1989, two people joined hands to pursue a dream. Unbeknownst to them, this dream of theirs became a phenomenal driving force that has and continues to redefine the arts in Malaysia. The duo is none other than husband-and-wife team Dato’ Dr. Faridah Merican and Joe Hasham OAM, Founders of The Actors Studio (Malaysia).
Armed with a mission to nurture the arts in Malaysia, they have groomed countless of artistes, created a string of theatre spaces and enriched lives by improving access to the arts. Seven venues on, hundreds of award-winning productions later, The Actors Studio’s expertise remains unrivaled. It has presented almost 600 productions and over a million people have passed through the doors of its theatres. The Actors Studio has been responsible for the nurturing and enabling of countless performing arts companies and individuals and is in no small way, responsible for the continuing growth of the Malaysian Performing Arts scene.
For Joe and Faridah, this is still the beginning of the journey. The end is nowhere in sight, not until there are dedicated performing arts venues in every state of the country. This is their dream – and their hope.
The Actors Studio Academy
The art can engage a person like no other medium can. Not only is it a form of expression but it challenges our thinking and assumptions as well as expand our understanding of people and the world. It helps develop creativity, cognition, understanding of culture and communication, qualities that we believe are important for our future generation of leaders.
The Actors Studio Academy @ penangpac is an integral part of our centre. We engage artist-teachers who have hands on experience. We have a direct link to the full-range of facilities such as the theatres and studios. We have a wide range of courses for children, teens and adults such as creative drama programmes emphasising on physical, vocal, character and creativity development, and also dance and movement programmes such as Hip Hop and Kpop classes.

About penangpac 關於檳城表演藝術中心
This project is aimed at raising fund to assist the Performing Arts Centre of Penang (penangpac) to sustain its operation. It is a well-known fact that penangpac has been badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. Although they are back in operation early this month after shutting down temporarily for almost three months, things hasn’t been looking too good for them.
As a not for profit organisation, penangpac has been struggling with financial loss for years. However, the financial crisis caused by Covid-19 pandemic is a big blow to the only performing arts centre in the Northern Region of Peninsula Malaysia.
作為非為營利的表演藝術中心,檳城表演藝術中心雖自開幕以來連年虧損,但這次新冠肺炎疫情所帶來的財務危機使到這北馬唯一功能齊全的表演藝術中心無以為繼。
The survival of penangpac at the moment depends on donations. We aim to raise as much funds as possible to keep penangpac afloat until it is able to operate at its full capacity. At the moment, with SOPs and public’s fear of going back to theatre, penangpac is still struggling to recover from its financial crisis.
