Steinway Artist, Poom Prommachart is currently a Creative Music Director of Tutan Entertainment, the Artistic Director of the Steinway Youth Piano Competition in Thailand and an
Elite Fellow of University Malaya’s Music Faculty.
Just recently in May 2023, he was awarded the Best Solo Performance Instrumental - Music by
the BOH Cameronian 18th Arts Awards.
In 2022, Poom received the ‘Rector’s List of Honour for the Most Exceptional Graduates’ from
the University of Montreal’s Doctor of Music programme. He received his Bachelor of Music
degree, Master of Music degree, and Artist Diploma at the Royal College of Music in London
(RCM) in 2014 on a full scholarship sponsored by H.R.H Princess Galyani Vadhana of Thailand
and the RCM and obtained the most coveted Tagore Gold Medal during his time in London,
which was handed to him by King Chalres III of United Kingdom. Subsequently, he has also
studied at the Moscow Conservatory in Russia.
After his performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor with the London Musician
Symphony Orchestra in 2010, he was applauded by critics who referred to him as “a youthful
Ashkenazy” in "Seen and Heard UK Concert Review". Furthermore,in 2023, the Pianomania praised his performance of Chopin’s 24 Preludes Op. 28, “No performance of the Chopin Preludes has captivated as much as this since the late-lamented Fou Tsong’s in the same hall in 1993, some thirty years ago..(Poom) made the audience listen to Chopin with new pairs ofears”
Poom’s international performing career began in 2010, when he won the gold medal in Serbia’s
Fifth Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition. Since then, he has won many prizes and
performed with notable orchestras he has recently worked with include Montevideo
Philharmonic Orchestra, London Musician Symphony Orchestra, Timisoara Philharmonic
Orchestra of România, National Symphony Orchestra of Serbia, Worthing Symphony Orchestra, Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra, and Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. His recent major concert engagements included piano recitals at Rachmaninoff Hall in Moscow, Belgrade
Kolarac Hall in Serbia, Seoul Arts Center in Seoul and Busan, South Korea, Esplanade Hall in
Singapore, South Bank and Royal Albert Hall in the U.K., Music Festival Perugia in Italy and
Suntory Hall in Japan. In 2020, Poom won first the grand prize at the Orford Music Award,
Canada and a coming concert tour with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
His mentors have included distinguished pianists such as Dang Thai Son, Dina Parakhina,
Vladimir Tropp, Eliso Virsalaze, Peerapong Surawan, Rena Phua and Ian Jones.
Agnes Lau Hui Ping
Agnes is a trumpeter and music educator. She has recently completed her Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore under the tutelage of Jon Paul Dante and Lau Wen Rong. She is the 1st prize winner of the Malaysia International Virtual Band Championships (MIVBC) 2020 - open solo category.
As a trumpet player, Agnes has performed in numerous local and international platforms, including in countries such as Georgia, Spain, Hong Kong and Thailand to name a few. Her diverse musical interests have led her to collaborate with various types of ensembles including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra (Singapore), Lion City Brass Band, Lion City Youth Jazz Festival, NUS Jazz Band, various brass quintets, Opus Novus (new music) as well as YST Trumpet Ensemble.
In Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST), she experienced life-changing education and was inspired to bring this privilege to her hometown through organizing music training project - Miri Music Project (2019) and Southeast Asia Regional Project (2018) where undergraduates from YST were flown in to conduct week-long workshops, masterclasses and recitals.
Beside playing trumpet, Agnes holds an Associate Diploma in Violin Performance with highest distinction from the International Music Examination Board (AIMEB) as well as Grade 8 in both piano and violin examination from the Trinity College of London.
Kevin is an international conductor and, before moving to Malaysia in 1999, BMA’s Director of Academic and Artistic Development was Sub-Principal Percussionist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the UK’s oldest and most established provincial professional orchestra. Kevin was a student at the Royal Academy of Music, London when American conductor, Andrew Litton appointed him to the BSO, with whom he toured the USA twice, Europe on numerous occasions, recorded hundreds of CDs and performed more than one thousand two hundred concerts over a nine-year period.
As a drummer, percussionist, composer and conductor Kevin’s performing pedigree covers rock, swing and orchestral music. Performing in big bands and orchestras since the age of 11, Kevin studied timpani and percussion at the Birmingham School of Music where, as a first year student, he performed with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra making his professional debut with Simon Rattle conducting, all before graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in London with Honours. On joining the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra he established, ‘Kokoro’ – the contemporary music ensemble of the BSO. Kevin later went to work with the Ballet Rambert, Saddlers Wells Royal Ballet, The Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
From 1999 to 2014 Kevin was Associate Conductor with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra where he worked with world-class soloists in a variety of jazz, contemporary and mainstream inspired projects. With the MPO, Kevin commissioned Malaysian composers, Tazul Tajjudin, Sunetra Fernando, Muriz Che Rose, Adeline Wong and Jyotsna Prakash and premiered over 200 international works in Malaysia by living composers; accompanied music legends, Siti Nurhaliza and Sheila Majid, and formed both the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and MPO Forum for Malaysian Composers winning many awards and accolades in the process.
As a conductor Kevin has directed the BBC Symphony and Australia Chamber Orchestra together with the MPO; the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Opera North (UK) the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, West Australian, Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras. He has worked with leading international artists, among them: jazz duo, Chick Corea and Gary Burton; bandonian player, Daniel Binelli; violinist, Leonidas Kavakos; pianist, Peter Donohoe; Kodo drummer, Eitetsu Hayashi and Chinese opera specialist, Shu-Cheen Yu, to name but a few.
