Jaya Ram, Sutra Foundation’s recent Odissi production for 2022 had its world premiere in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in September, 2022. Jaya Ram was commissioned to Guru Gajendra Kumar Panda, one of Odisha’s leading dance makers and a collaborator of Sutra for the last 4 decades. The production was conceived only after several field researches undertaken together with Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, in the culture-rich region of South Odisha. 

Jaya Ram, a totally new and original Odissi production, drew its inspiration from the influences of folk genres both in music and movement, of Rama Natakam and Ram Leela, enriching the present repertoire of Odissi with the myth of Lord Rama, Hero of the Ramayana. 

All aspects of dance & music compositions and libretto were commissioned to distinguished experts of their respective fields in Odisha.

This odissi production is an entirely new undertaking that made a successful impact in its recent world premiere and 5-day full house season in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Jaya Ram will embark on a Malaysia-India tour in a much anticipated event in the Dance calendar of 2022/2023. It also opened The Konark Festival (Odisha) on the 1st December, 2022, was presented at DIAF (Delhi International Arts Festival) on 29 & 30 Dec, 2022 and the Khajuraho Dance Festival, 23 February 2023. 

Jaya Ram is a fitting and high-profile culmination of Malaysia-India 65 year diplomatic relations and represents a significant cultural collaboration between the two nations.
