KonTra : Yuèguāng 月光

Whether in festivals or fairy tales, the moon is a recurring imagery in Chinese culture and folklore. In KonTra: Yuèguāng 月光, six of Malaysia’s most exciting choreographers showcase their contemporary dance works inspired by traditional Chinese culture and beliefs.  
 
Expect a diverse and refreshing line up of new dance pieces, each showcasing the choreographers’ individual style and cleverly infused with traditional Chinese elements. 
 
Helmed by dancer-choreographer Zhafir Muzani, KonTra is an on-going mixed bill, experimental dance series. Its title marries the Malay word for ‘kontemporari’ (contemporary) and ‘tradisional’ with the hope of injecting creativity and innovation to traditional arts, sparking renewed interest among the young and driving new creative works by dance artistes that still honour our heritage and traditions. 
 
Past editions include KonTra : Bianglala (2022), KonTra : Asirvatham (2022) and KonTra : Borneo (2023).
