In ancient times, the “heart” was considered the organ of thought, which is why both thoughts and emotions were referred to as “heart.”
As the Diamond Sutra says: "The three hearts are the past heart, the present heart, and the future heart. The past heart cannot be obtained, the present heart cannot be obtained, and the future heart cannot be obtained. Since the three hearts cannot be obtained, one should be without a dwelling and give rise to the heart."
But what does it mean to “give rise to the heart without dwelling”? Isn’t this contradictory?
Mindfulness provides the answer—by uniting awareness with the present moment, you can embody the state of “giving rise to the heart without dwelling.” This state represents the journey toward wisdom free from attachment.
Trilogy of Hearts combines butoh, tea ceremony, music, stage design, lighting, and projection to artistically explore this concept. Through performance, the audience is invited on a meditative journey infused with Zen philosophy and reflective exploration.
